The Map Metadata Editor

You can download the latest development snapshot (8/18/08) of our Map Metadata Editor compiled for Microsoft Windows. The Map Metadata Editor imports FGDC XML and GEODEX, publishes the imagery by tiling to KML on the library's local host and sends a copy of the metadata to a union catalog hosted at the UConn Libraries.

The Proto-type Search Engine

'Geo-referenced' map images can be located by searching a placename against a digital gazetteer. Entering a placename will query Google's digital gazetteer which returns a Latitude/Longitude in numeric format. The numeric X/Y is queried from a metadata database and computed against the known extent of the map sheet. The map is selected, a Google Earth Placemark is generated and a link given for the map image.

If Google Earth is installed on your computer you will be able the view the map.
